A man from South Kashmir whose vehicle was allegedly used by militants to carry out an attack on Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army on Thursday evening surrendered before police on Friday. Pertinently, militants attacked an army unit of 44 RR in Ahgam Shopian on Thursday evening.

The militants had used a private Sentro Vehicle that they had abandoned while fleeing from the spot. A militant Asif Ashraf Malik was wounded in the attack who is undergoing treatment at SKIMS Srinagar. Police sources said that after the seizure of the said vehicle, it surfaced, that it was owned by one Nisar Ahmed Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir, resident of Yadro hamlet of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Reliable sources informed news agency CNS that during the dead of the night combined forces including 44 RR raided the house of the owner of the vehicle. Sources added that the owner of the vehicle Nisar Ahmed Mir was not present in the house, while Forces personnel picked up his brother Muhammad Yakub Mir. The Mir family alleged that Yakub was tortured at the army camp and they were told that he could be released only after Nisar Ahmed will surrender before police. “Nisar had informed us beforehand that militants intercepted his vehicle while he was on way towards his home. He is a common man and has nothing to do militancy. We persuaded him to surrender before the police which he did,” said family members of Mir. A police official confirmed that vehicle owner Nisar Ahmed Mir surrendered before the police.

“As per his statement, his vehicle was forcibly taken away by militants. We are investigating the matter,” he added and refuted the family allegations that Yakub Mir was physically hurt.
